## Connectivity in Canfield

What is actually licensed and built around here — the starting point for any coverage job.

| Measure | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Nearest licensed site | 2.7 km east · Rogers · 88 m structure |
| Licensed sites within 10 km | 10 (Bell, Rogers) |
| Fibre | Metro Loop / Xplore fibre is under construction here |
| Also available | Starlink, fixed wireless |

**What this does and does not tell you.** These are licensed radio sites from ISED’s spectrum database — where carriers are permitted to transmit. It is not measured coverage. A site three kilometres away can be useless if it is behind a rise or its antennas point elsewhere, and a distant one on a tall tower with clear line of sight can be perfectly good. Whether a booster will work at your address comes down to what actually reaches your roof, which is a survey, not a calculation. ## What the work looks like in Canfield

Old rail corridors are genuinely useful to us, and not for nostalgic reasons. A disused line is a long, level, cleared strip with nothing built on it, which means sightlines across it stay open where a comparable distance across farmland would eventually meet a windbreak or a new shed. When a link has to cross a couple of kilometres here, the corridor is often the reason it works.

The hamlet itself was built as a service point for the farms around it rather than as somewhere people commuted from, and that is still roughly what it is. The properties are working holdings with buildings spread across them, and the fibre build has Canfield listed as under construction rather than live — so the connection is coming but is not here.

## What people here ask for

- Point-to-point links taking advantage of open former rail corridors
- Farm outbuilding coverage on working holdings
- Interim connections that will suit fibre when it lands

## About Canfield

### The place itself

- Named in 1859 after Albert Canfield, a local contractor, when the Buffalo & Lake Huron Railway opened through here. ([source](https://ontariorailwaystations.wordpress.com/home/haldimand-county/canfield-railway-stations/))
- Three separate railway lines converged at Canfield Junction, and the Canada Southern built a tall interlocking tower to control movements through it. ([source](https://ontariorailwaystations.wordpress.com/home/haldimand-county/canfield-junction-railway-stations/))

### What is worked here

- Founded as a rural crossroads centre providing services to the farms around it, with a stock pen and sidings at the junction. ([source](https://ontariorailwaystations.wordpress.com/home/haldimand-county/canfield-railway-stations/))

### Internet and networks

- Metro Loop lists Canfield in the under-construction phase of the Haldimand build. ([source](https://www.xplore.ca/blog/metro-loop-xplornet-building-together/))
- Ten licensed mobile sites within ten kilometres, Bell and Rogers. ([source](https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=4096b5c59b764a8db20b087cfcb62920))
