## Connectivity in Vittoria

What is actually licensed and built around here — the starting point for any coverage job.

| Measure | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Nearest licensed site | 4.9 km south-west · Rogers · 105 m structure |
| Licensed sites within 10 km | 9 (Bell, Rogers) |
| Fibre | SWIFT fibre is available here |
| Also available | Starlink |

**What this does and does not tell you.** These are licensed radio sites from ISED’s spectrum database — where carriers are permitted to transmit. It is not measured coverage. A site three kilometres away can be useless if it is behind a rise or its antennas point elsewhere, and a distant one on a tall tower with clear line of sight can be perfectly good. Whether a booster will work at your address comes down to what actually reaches your roof, which is a survey, not a calculation. ## What the work looks like in Vittoria

A village that was briefly a district capital has a denser old core than its size suggests — properties close together, older construction, and a building stock that predates any thought of running cable through it. Most of the work here is residential, and the recurring difficulty is getting a clean route through walls that were built before electricity, let alone data.

Immediately outside the village it becomes Norfolk farm country, and the job changes entirely: distance, outbuildings, and the usual question of how to get a network from the house to whatever is four hundred metres away.

## What people here ask for

- Cable routing in older village housing stock
- Farm outbuilding links immediately outside the village
- Residential camera systems

## About Vittoria

### The place itself

- Was the administrative capital of the London District. In 1815 the courts moved here from Charlotteville, at what was then Tisdale’s Mills, and Vittoria held the district courthouse until it burned in 1825. ([source](https://www.ontarioplaques.com/Plaques_MNO/Plaque_Norfolk05.html))
- After the fire the authorities chose not to rebuild here, siting the new London District Court House at a fork in the Thames instead — which is how London, Ontario became London. ([source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_District,_Upper_Canada))

### Land and location

- Sits inland between Simcoe and the Port Dover shoreline. ([source](https://norfolkbusiness.ca/community/))

### Internet and networks

- SWIFT fibre buildout complete across Norfolk as of August 2024. ([source](https://swiftruralbroadband.ca/swift-fibre-optic-network-buildout-complete-in-norfolk-county/))
