Security cameras & WiFi in Long Point

Long Point is a 40-kilometre sand spit of almost entirely seasonal property, and it now has fibre — which makes the monitoring problem solvable in a way it was not a few years ago.

What this does and does not tell you. These are licensed radio sites from ISED’s spectrum database — where carriers are permitted to transmit. It is not measured coverage. A site three kilometres away can be useless if it is behind a rise or its antennas point elsewhere, and a distant one on a tall tower with clear line of sight can be perfectly good. Whether a booster will work at your address comes down to what actually reaches your roof, which is a survey, not a calculation. ISED spectrum licence data, fetched 2026-09-11.

What the work looks like in Long Point

A cottage that sits empty from October to May is the clearest case there is for a camera system, and historically the hardest to serve out here because there was nothing to run it on. The Execulink build changed that for 900-odd properties. What it does not change is the environment: this is a sand spit in Lake Erie, and anything mounted outside gets weather, wind and salt-free but relentless damp.

The other constraint is access. Getting a technician out here is a trip, so the right approach is equipment chosen to be reliable and remotely manageable rather than whatever is cheapest at install.

What people here ask for

  • Unattended cottage monitoring over the closed season
  • Weather-hardened outdoor installs
  • Remotely manageable equipment that does not need a site visit to reset
  • Provincial park and campground coverage
