A booster does not create signal. It takes whatever is reaching your roof and makes it usable inside — which is why where the outside antenna goes matters more than which kit you buy.

Coverage across both counties is fine in the towns and patchy everywhere else. On the concessions, in steel-roofed shops, and down toward the lake, it is common to have a phone that works standing in the yard and not at all indoors.

The work is mostly survey. We find where the usable signal actually is, which carrier and band it belongs to, and mount the external antenna to point at it. Then the internal side is sized to the area that needs covering — a house, a shop, a barn office. Getting the separation between the two antennas right is what stops the system oscillating and shutting itself down, and it is the single most common fault in DIY installs we are called out to fix.

Common questions

Will a booster work if I have no signal at all?

No. A booster amplifies an existing signal, so there has to be something for the outside antenna to pick up, even if it is unusable at ground level. If there is genuinely nothing reaching the property, WiFi calling over a satellite or fibre connection is the better answer, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a booster that cannot work.

Do boosters work for every carrier?

A properly chosen booster covers the bands all the major Canadian carriers use, so a household on different networks is fine. What matters is that the external antenna is aimed at a tower carrying the bands you need.

Why did my DIY booster stop working?

Usually oscillation. If the inside and outside antennas are too close or not separated properly, the booster hears itself, detects the feedback and shuts down to protect the network. It is the most common fault we find, and it is a mounting problem rather than a faulty unit.

Can you boost signal in a steel-clad shop?

Yes, and steel buildings are one of the clearest cases for it — the cladding is precisely what is blocking the signal. The internal antenna goes inside the building, so the metal skin stops being the problem.
