How long does WiFi installation take?

Honest ranges, and the things that turn a half-day job into a two-day one.

Typical timings

A house — access points positioned and wired, one network across the property, tested — is usually half a day. A property with outbuildings that need links is a full day, occasionally two.

A camera system on a house is typically half a day to a day depending on camera count and how hard the cable runs are. A farm install with links out to buildings is realistically a full day minimum.

Commercial work depends almost entirely on the building. A survey first, then the install, is the normal shape, and we would rather tell you it is two visits than discover it halfway through the first.

What makes a job run long

Cable routes, more than anything. An accessible attic or an unfinished basement is quick. A finished basement, a stone wall, spray-foam insulation or a fully-clad shop can double the time for the same number of devices.

Mounting at height — a mast for a link, or cameras on a tall building — adds time and sometimes needs equipment.

And the thing nobody plans for: finding out on the day that the existing setup has to be untangled first. Three generations of extenders, a router in a cupboard and two networks with the same name is a common starting point, and sorting that out is part of the job.

What we do before arriving

A proper conversation about the property beforehand removes most of the surprises. Distances between buildings, what they are built of, where the connection comes in, and what you actually want covered will get you a realistic answer rather than an optimistic one.

Common questions

Do you need to be inside the whole time?

Not usually. Access is needed where the equipment goes and where cable is routed, but much of a rural install is outdoors or in outbuildings.

Will my internet be down during the work?

Briefly, at the point equipment is swapped over. We plan the cutover so the interruption is minutes rather than the working day.
